Focus Terra

Visitors can explore the permanent geology exhibition or the current special exhibits, experience the earth's tremors in the earthquake simulator, and enjoy educational workshops on topics like the moon mission, minerals, or geology. On Sundays, a public program is available.

Guided tours and lectures, which last about an hour and do not require reservations, are offered on earthquakes (including a visit to the earthquake simulator) at 11:00, 13:00, and 15:00. Alternatively, visitors can take a self-guided tour using a complimentary audio guide or embark on a geological-monumental tour of Zurich's old town to discover the building materials used over the centuries and how geology has shaped the cityscape.

Activities

Focus Terra contains : 

• Archives of the Earth : Sedimentary rocks and their depositional environments serve as archives of Earth's history, allowing us to infer the environmental conditions of past eras,
• Treasures of the Earth : Numerous geological processes within our planet and on its surface rely on the properties of the minerals that compose it,
• Dynamics of the Earth : You can see The formation of our Solar System, The formation of Earth and Moon, Meteorites.
• Earthquake simulator : The facility, weighing a substantial 3 tonnes, is capable of simulating ground motions from earthquakes of up to magnitude 8, 
• Workshops : The children can get to know the various properties and defining characteristics of minerals, the colorful world of crystals and minerals.
