The Rhine Falls (Rheinfall), Europe's largest waterfall, is one of Switzerland’s most breathtaking natural wonders. A visit here promises stunning scenery, exciting boat rides, and family-friendly fun.
Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your experience...with kids!
Getting There from Zurich
Reaching the Rhine Falls from Zurich is quick and easy:
- By Car: Approx. 45-minute drive from Zurich. Parking is available on both sides of the falls.
- By Train: A direct train from Zurich HB to Neuhausen am Rheinfall takes around 50 minutes, followed by a 5-10 minute walk to the viewpoints.
Recommended Age for Kids
While children of all ages will enjoy the sights and sounds of the falls, some activities—such as the boat ride to the central rock—are best suited for kids 6+ years due to the slippery steps and the close proximity to the powerful water flow. For younger children, the viewing platforms, playgrounds, and picnic areas offer plenty of entertainment.
How Much Time Should You Plan?
A 2 to 3-hour visit is ideal to fully enjoy the
- waterfall views
- the boat trip and
- a relaxed meal at one of the nearby restaurants.
If you plan to hike the trails or let the kids play at the playground, you might want to extend your stay to half a day.
Is the Boat Trip Worth It?
Yeees! The boat tours offer an up-close experience of the falls, allowing visitors to feel the raw power of the cascading water.
