Overview

Storycraft is the children's art studio in Rüschlikon, on the left shore of Lake Zürich. This autumn the studio is full of vampires, ravens and pumpkins: a Halloween camp in the Herbstferien, a run of Halloween weekend workshops, and the Little Artists term classes starting straight after the holidays.

The Halloween camp is fully booked. If you missed it, the weekend workshops and the term classes still have places.

Halloween weekend workshops (places open)

Short, hands-on sessions for ages 2-10 at CHF 35 per participating child.

  • Halloween T-shirts: Saturday 24 October, 10:00
  • Pumpkin Treat Tubs: Saturday 31 October, 10:00
  • Room on the Broom Movie and Make: Saturday 31 October, 18:00-19:30. A Halloween film evening where children make mini witches and witches' cats.
  • Pine Cone Owls: Saturday 7 November, 10:00

Good to know for these sessions:

  • Children over 4 who can work fairly independently can be dropped off. Younger children come with a parent or carer.
  • You pay only for participating children. Adults are not counted, and siblings under 2 who are not taking part come along free.
  • Weekend classes at Storycraft usually last 90 minutes, with materials and a snack included.
  • Book four or more weekend classes and the code 4weekendclasses gives 15% off.

Little Artists term classes (places open)

Weekly 90-minute art classes that start after the Herbstferien. The autumn term runs for 9 weeks, from the week of 19 October to the week of 14 December, and costs CHF 270 (CHF 30 per week). All materials are included.

Little Artists, ages 7-12

  • Wednesdays, 17:15-18:45, with Kortney. Starts 21 October.
  • Fridays, 16:15-17:45, with Mady. Starts 23 October.
  • Children draw, paint, collage, sculpt and craft with acrylics, watercolours, clay, pastels and papier-mâché. Projects range from guided to open-ended, and many run over several weeks.
  • Taught in English, with Mady also offering support in German.

Little Artists Studio, ages 9-16

  • Thursdays, 17:30-19:00, with Mady. Starts 22 October.
  • For young people ready to develop their own ideas. They choose their own projects and get guidance on planning, technique and colour.
  • Teacher support in English and German.
  • If a project needs costlier materials, such as large canvases or kiln-fired ceramics, part of that cost is passed on. This is always agreed in advance.

Good to know for term classes:

  • Children who join both Little Artists and Little Artists Studio get 20% off.
  • Registration renews automatically for the next term unless you cancel two weeks before the current term ends.

Halloween Camp: Creatures of the Night (fully booked)

Monday 12 to Friday 16 October | 9:00-16:00 | Ages 5-10 CHF 550 for 5 days, CHF 350 for 3 days, CHF 250 for 2 days

All three booking options are fully booked. Here is what the week covers, for families already signed up and for anyone planning ahead for the next holiday camp.

Part 1: Vampires and Creatures of the Night (Monday to Wednesday, 12-14 October)

  • Become a Vampire: children design their own vampire character and make a wearable full-face mask with fangs, pointed ears, hair and painted details.
  • The Vampire's Chalice: a papier-mâché goblet decorated with foam-clay bats, spiders, skulls, dripping blood, roses and jewels.
  • Moonlit Raven Canvas: a raven painted beneath a glowing moon, working with deep night colours, shimmering feathers and silvery light.
  • The Vampire Buffet: a miniature midnight feast modelled in foam clay, from eyeball cakes and finger sandwiches to spider-topped desserts.
  • Wednesday afternoon ends with a mini Halloween party, with games and spooky snacks.

Part 2: Mad Lab (Thursday and Friday, 15-16 October)

  • Mutant Monster Plants: a carnivorous plant built from Mod Roc (plaster bandage) and mixed media, with snapping jaws, sharp teeth and twisting stems.
  • Mad Experiment Portraits: children invent a creature (three eyes, an extra arm, stitches and bolts) and paint it as a large-scale portrait, then add measurements, arrows and scientific labels.
  • Creepy Specimen Jars: laboratory jars filled with slime, floating eyeballs and creepy crawlies, finished with handmade specimen labels and warning signs.

A camp day mixes structured, step-by-step art projects with free-art time. Around the main projects there are Halloween stories, themed games, music and mini-films, with breaks through the day and time outdoors when the weather allows. Snacks and drinks are provided. Children bring their own packed lunch and a water bottle.

Both sessions are fully booked. Messy Art runs about once a month: each session opens with a picture book story, then children paint on a giant scale for 50-60 minutes. This month they paint a huge portrait of themselves in Halloween costume. Children under 4.5 join with a grown-up, and older children can be dropped off. Bring old clothes and a full change of clothes.

Good to know

  • Parking: visitor spaces outside the studio, plus free 4-hour parking on Bahnhofstrasse opposite.
  • Cancellation, single sessions: CHF 8 materials fee if you cancel 1-2 weeks before, full charge within 7 days.
  • Cancellation, term classes: 25% fee if you cancel within two weeks of the start of term. Once term has begun, the full term fee is due.
  • Cancellation, camps: full refund more than 14 days before the start, 50% fee 7-14 days before, full charge within 7 days.
  • Illness: no refunds for missed sessions. Storycraft may offer a transfer or a future camp day if space allows.
