Stroll through the Old Town with Bear Park and Rose Garden
If you are really a Bern newbie, then a walk through the beautiful Old Town along the sandstone buildings across the Nydegg Bridge to the Bear Park is not to be missed. Björk, Finn and Ursina - the three bears of the bear park - can be visited for free. We recommend another ice cream from the Eiswerkstatt to go. What could be better than watching the heraldic animal of Bern splashing in the Aare and enjoying a delicious ice cream? Afterwards, the steep ascent to the Rose Garden of Bern is worth the effort. This effort is rewarded with a beautiful view over the whole city, many shady spots (and in the best case, blooming roses) as well as a great playground.
Dählhölzli Zoo
Bern's zoo is a "must" if you're planning a trip to Bern. The Dählhölzli is located directly on the beautiful Aare River. Only last year the new ibex enclosure was opened, where visitors can become climbing professionals themselves. Many enclosures in the outdoor area can even be visited free of charge - as well as the playground and petting zoo right next to the restaurant.
