General Description
The Museum of Cycladic Art is located in Athens and is one of the most important museums in Greece. It was founded in 1986 with the main purpose of housing the collection of ancient Cycladic art of Nikolaos and Dolly Goulandris. The museum is mainly dedicated to the Cycladic culture of the Early Cycladic period (3200-2000 BC), which developed on the Cycladic islands of the Aegean. In particular, the museum is known for the characteristic Cycladic figurines, the marble statuettes with abstract and simple lines, which are among the most recognizable symbols of ancient Greek art. The museum also hosts periodic exhibitions of contemporary art, emphasizing the connection between the ancient and the modern world. The architecture is contemporary, and the exhibition spaces are designed to showcase delicate and simple works of art.

The Museum of Cycladic Art includes many activities for children:
Educational Programmes for schools
- School Tours of the Museum's Exhibitions : School tours of the exhibitions offer children the opportunity to discover and love the world of the Museum,
- Educational programmes for preschoolers : Through group activities, children enhance their sociability, express themselves creatively and learn to cooperate, taking an exciting journey into the past through the Museum's exhibits,
- Educational programmes for 3rd grade students : The themes of the activities are based on the Museum's permanent exhibitions. The hands-on experience helps children become familiar with the world of the Museum and its exhibits,
- Educational programmes for 4th grade students : Includes "Getting to know the Museum's vessels", "Daily life in ancient Athens",
- Educational programmes for 1st grade students : Includes "Cycladic Culture", "The Museum's Clay Vessels", "Everyday Life in Ancient Athens".
Programmes for families and children
- For parents and children 2-4 years old : What can classical music have to do with cooking spoons, jazz with knitting and pop with flour? This year, parents and children will mix for good! Music from all over the world will be the inspiration to experiment with the most unexpected materials and create in the most imaginative ways,
- For children 4-7 years old : In this year's workshops at the Museum of Cycladic Art they will play, jump, observe and discover the colors, shapes, smells and sounds that nature hides,
- For children 7-11 years old : The first workshops of the year take place in the context of the exhibition "Cindy Sherman at Cycladic. Children will explore the exhibition, learn about Cindy Sherman's work, draw inspiration and create their own creations,
- Summer Camp : At the Museum of Cycladic Art's Summer Camp, children enjoy the best vacation in the Museum. For five days in June or July, they play, improvise and create, drawing inspiration from a different theme each year.
The Museum is closed every Tuesday as well as January 1, Clean Monday, March 25, Easter Sunday & Monday, Easter Sunday & Monday, May Day, Holy Spirit Day, August 15, December 25, December 26.
Free admission for Friends of the Museum, children up to 18 years of age, disabled persons and their companion, unemployed persons on presentation of an active OARD card.
