Sailing for children

The multiple benefits of the favorite water sport for our little friends

Sailing is a sport that has its roots in antiquity when about 3500 years ago the first sails were set in the Aegean Sea. Nowadays it is a popular sport in our country for both adults and children since in addition to entertainment it offers a lot of other benefits!

But let's see a little more in detail what positives our child will gain by learning sailing:

Contact with nature

We all benefit from our contact with nature and children even more. Of all the activities for children that are available these days, sailing certainly gives our children a unique opportunity to come into contact with nature and the water element. In a sailing lesson, our children will spend hours in a small boat with a sail in the sea with only the wind, the waves and the sky as their company. This in itself offers them inner peace and contributes to the creation of ecological awareness.

Intense activity

Anyone who has done sailing knows that it is an intense sport in which the pace and adrenaline keep you alert. That is why it is an ideal choice for children who, as is known, have excess energy and need us to find appropriate ways for them to utilize and channel it. Activities for children such as sailing and swimming are sports that will pleasantly “tired out” even the most tireless child.

Patience

If you want your children to learn to be more patient, then sailing is the right sport for them. Unlike perhaps most sports that take place indoors, sailing directly depends on the elements of nature. There will be days when due to bad weather the lesson will be held at a theoretical level in the classroom and others when due to apnea they will not be able to go far with their boats no matter how hard they try. All of this develops patience and makes our children appreciate more what they gain with hard work and effort.

Self-confidence

Sailing lessons are sure to give a big boost to the self-confidence of our little friends. Self-confidence both for what they can accomplish on their own and for their relationship with the liquid element. And this is because of course there is no better feeling than feeling like you are driving a boat alone in the water, taming the power of the wind and waves. By learning to sail, our children gain self-confidence that accompanies them throughout their lives, in whatever they will do in the future. Read here 6 tips for building self-esteem in children.

Teamwork

It may seem like an individual sport while our children are young and doing their first miles in optimists (the small boats that everyone starts with). But then if someone wants to continue doing open sea sailing, then there we are talking about an absolute team sport. In open sea sailing the crew of each boat is in perfect synchronization and performs a uniquely harmonious dance on the sailboat in each race. Each individual has a specific position, everyone listens to the captain and no one is in the place of the other while at the same time changing their position on the boat listening to the movement of the boat itself.

For all the above reasons, consider enrolling your children in sailing lessons this year and you will not regret it!
