The Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments - Collection of Phoebos Anoyeianakis - Centre for Ethnomusicology (MELMOFAKE) hosts a collection of 1200 Greek folk musical instruments, dating from the 18th century to the present day, which were collected by the musicologist Phoebos Anoyeianakis. The exhibition is organized into categories of instruments, as distinguished by ethnomusicology, according to the material that pulsates to produce the sound. In the Museum's premises, courses in traditional musical instruments and folk singing are held, while the garden hosts traditional music concerts. Seminars are also organized which aim to highlight and present traditional Greek music to all ages.
The Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments offers a variety of activities for children, which combine education with fun and aim to familiarize young visitors with the traditional music and musical instruments of Greece. Some of the main activities include:
Guided Tours for Children : Specialized guided tours in simple and understandable language that help children learn about the musical instruments in the collection and their importance in Greek folk tradition,
Music Workshops : The Museum organizes music workshops where children can play with traditional instruments, learn about their function and participate in the creation of musical compositions,
Traditional Music Lessons : Musical instruments and traditional singing lessons are given, specially adapted for children, where they can discover the musical roots of Greece and learn to play simple songs,
Concerts and Events : The Museum's garden hosts traditional music concerts, where children can watch live performances and get in touch with live examples of Greek musical culture,
Creative Workshops : In some events, children have the opportunity to create simple handmade musical instruments, decorate musical objects and express their creativity through playing with sound and music.
"Mandolinata" ensemble : The level of those participating does not need to be advanced. However, the ability to read music scores and technical training on the instrument in question are essential, 35€/month,
Group Folk Guitar Lesson :The first session will be free for new members, in case they do not continue. 100€/quarter with prepayment or 120€/quarter,
Group Sandurion Lesson : The group lesson will explore tunes and songs from the North Aegean, Cyclades and Dodecanese, focusing on the particular musical style of each region and the two roles of the sandurion. Special price for minors : 75€/quarter with prepayment or 95€/quarter (+10€ registration),
Choir of traditional singing KEMFA : Special price for minors : 75€/trimester with prepayment or 95€/trimester (+10€ registration).
